1. “The Fall,” - Blue Stahli: I first discovered this song from a 2018 meme track, called “I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up,” made by a dude named Cryptrik. To quote David Guetta, “shout out to his family.” This original track is a banger though, and it’s by an electronic rock project called Blue Stahli, and the guy behind it is a guy from Phoenix, named Bret Autrey. Autrey is the lead singer, guitarist, and pianist of the project, which demonstrates how talented he is. As for the song, it’s phenomenally orchestrated. I like the heavily distorted guitar riffs and backing synths on this track, and Autrey’s voice sounds androgynous and ghost-like. I highly recommend this track. “You’ve bought all the happiness, but you still want more.”

  2. “Freezing Moon,” - Mayhem: One of the best tracks by Norwegian black metal band, Mayhem. Another song with heavily distorted guitars that I like and thrashing drums. I’m a metalhead and I’m probably gonna review the album it’s from, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, in the near future, as their debut album turns 30 years old this year. Even though it’s a long song, I like how it’s constantly changing. And I love how controversial and chaotic this band is, like there’s entire documentaries about the Norwegian black metal scene. The late, great guitarist Euronymous provides some insane riffs. The drummer, Hellhammer does a fantastic job too. And Attila Csihar’s demonic vocals are the cherry on top. Look for a review of this project in the near future.

  3. “Surround Sound,” - JID featuring 21 Savage and Baby Tate: Changing things up, this is the first song I’ve heard from the Atlanta rapper JID, and this guy is insanely talented. His flows are quick and concise, over an amazing trap beat. The instrumental is produced by DJ Scheme, Christo, and Nuri, and samples, “One Step Ahead,” by Aretha Franklin. The loop that samples Aretha’s soulful voice with those hi hats and snares is just perfection. By the end of the first listen of this song you’ll be repeating it over, and over. 21 Savage’s verse is a great addition as well, but the star of the show is JID. Baby Tate has a solid feature as well, and I love the beat switch on the track, it shows JID’s versatility flow wise. I need to definitely listen to more of his music.

  4. “Silvera,” - Gojira: Another metal track, this time being French heavy metal band, Gojira. Another song that made me want to check out more of this artist. I love the chugging guitars of lead guitarist Christian Andreu, and lead singer/rhythm guitarist, Joe Duplantier. The guitar riffs and solos on this song will be engrained in your brain for a while after listening.

  5. “pick up the phone,” - Travis Scott & Young Thug: A song from an album, and two artists that I’m a fan of. I love the tropical beat produced by Vinylz, Frank Dukes, and Mike Dean. The hook done by Travis Scott is infectious, and Young Thug’s eccentric melodic flows provide a great complement to the laidback beat.
