Vultures 2 is the second album from hip hop duo Y$, composed of rapper, Kanye West (who prefers to go by Ye now), and singer Ty Dolla Sign. Their first edition of the planned Vultures trilogy, had very few highlights I enjoyed, which disappointed me, because I expect a lot more from a project from an artist as legendary as Kanye. He made My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Kids See Ghosts, how could he drop an album that was so terrible. It felt completely half-assed. Given that, I was not looking forward to Vultures 2. Here are my thoughts.

To start with the way it sounds musically, plain and simple, it sounds fucking awful. The mixing is terrible and the production is boring and lifeless. The instrumentals are so dull, and you would think that a project featuring producers such as Wheezy, Timbaland, Digital Nas, and Pi'erre Bourne would sound way better. Lyrically, the album barely feels like a Ye album, and there’s literally multiple instances where Kanye hasn’t finished his lyrics and vocals, so he ends up mumbling them. Probably the example of this that infuriates me the most, is on the track, “SKY CITY,” featuring 070 Shake, Desiigner, and CyHi. This was previously an unreleased track for the scrapped Kanye album, Yandhi, and the unreleased version sounded leagues better than the released version, which uses AI, rather than actual artists. One of my favorite unreleased Kanye tracks ruined. Some of the worst tracks instrumental-wise on this album are “Slide,” “Time Moving Slow,” and “Husband.” It’s really hard to choose as most of the beats are plain terrible. “River,” has actually a decent Kanye verse, but still it’s far below the standards I’ve come to expect from Mr. West.

Ty Dolla $ign, is a talented enough singer, but even he can’t save this album from sounding like an unfinished demo. And while there’s tons of star studded features like Future, Lil Wayne, and Playboi Carti, they don’t really add anything to the grand scheme of the record. “530,” also features mumbled words in the place of finished lyrics. Kanye announced on his website that he’d update the album with new mixes, but why didn’t he release a finished project to begin with?

It’s really hard to pick a least favorite track, but even harder to pick a favorite track off of this album. The lyrics are tired and clichéd, Kanye isn’t saying anything innovative or new, like on past albums such as My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy or The Life of Pablo. The production is a far cry from those amazing albums as well, the beats sound like a toddler made them in Garage Band, and they don’t sound different and unique to Kanye’s musical style. Every album that he released from The College Dropout all the way to Donda, had a distinct sound that made it stand out in a chaotic hip hop scene. Kanye has been one of my favorite artists ever since I was 10 years old, so seeing his downfall and decline in musical output quality, is sad for me. There are few songs on this album that I would come back to, because it’s uninspired and boring. I can’t believe that I enjoyed Vultures 1 more than this mess.
