Lyfestyle is the fifth album from Portland, Oregon’s biggest rapper, Yeat. While I haven’t heard his previous album released this year, 2093, I like a decent amount the tracks that I have heard from him, as well as his feature on Childish Gambino’s Bando Stone album. His sound is very energetic and chaotic and while he definitely has been influenced by artists like Playboi Carti, his sound is also unique to him. Anyways, here are my thoughts.

I will preface this by saying that the sound of this album is a return to the rage rap sound that he incorporated on his earlier albums. This results in the sound of the album being a lot more consistent and similar. While that’s not exactly not a bad thing in most cases, this album is 22 tracks long. It’s a long album, and a lot of the beats sound the same, which combined makes for a bit of a tiring listening experience. This resulted in me feeling very disengaged from most of the album, and while I like plenty of beats on this thing, there’s also a lot of beats I’m not a fan of. Not to mention, the mixing is pretty poor on many of the tracks, even on tracks that I enjoyed off of this album. Another problem I have with this record is the severe lack of features on it. I really liked Don Toliver and Lil Durk’s contributions on the respective tracks they were featured on, but, in my opinion, if you’re going to make an album that is over 20 tracks long, you better have plenty of features. My favorite track on this record is easily “HEARD OF ME,” and my least favorite track is “GEEK TIME.”

I think Yeat has a unique sound, but at the same time, this latest album from him doesn’t differentiate itself in sound when it comes to being compared with his records other than 2093. The beginning of the album is mostly strong, but the album’s quality just sort of declines as the album keeps going. I really wanted to like this album, because I saw how positive the reception was to 2093, but my expectations were sorely let down. The beats are very inconsistent, with some being great and bombastic, while others just fall completely flat. The mixing could be a lot better as well, and I would like for Yeat to experiment with more varieties of sounds in the future, as he can just feel like a one trick pony at times.
