While there were a lot of great albums that I heard this year, there were also some really terrible ones. Luckily, most of the music that I listened to this year was great, but there’s five albums that I wish I had never had the displeasure of hearing.

5 Worst Albums of 2024

  1. genre: sadboy - mgk & Trippie Redd: The only good thing I can say about this project is that it’s thankfully short. However it still feels too long at 10 tracks for 27 minutes. Trippie Redd’s vocals are absolutely grating, and both him and mgk have these really irritating whiny voices that make the EP practically unlistenable. Whether it’s an original song, or a shitty cover, mgk really has no talent when it comes to singing. His whole “I’m rich and famous, but I’m sad and angsty” shtick gets old really fast. Score: 0/10

  2. 143 - Katy Perry: I’m old enough to remember when Katy Perry made absolute bangers, but that was more than a decade ago, and this album is a far cry from the catchy, radio-friendly bops that she became known for. The whole “female empowerment” vibe she’s going for on tracks like “Woman’s World,” are completely overshadowed by the fact that she decided to work with someone who went to court with allegations against him of rape, and sexual harassment, among other things. Sure, it was settled out of court, but a lot of the allegations were seriously damning. Musically, it just sounds like generic grocery store pop, and the features add absolutely nothing. Just a terrible album. Score: 0/10

  3. VULTURES 2 - ¥$ (Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign): There was only one track that I ever came back to on this record, that being “FIELD TRIP,” featuring Playboi Carti and Kodak Black. This was probably the most disappointing album I’ve listened to this year, as I’ve usually always looked forward to Kanye’s albums. I debated putting VULTURES 1 on this list as well, but that album had some highlights, as bad as it was. With VULTURES 2, it felt like no effort was even put into the majority of this album. Whether it’s an annoying track, like “BOMB,” or a previously unreleased track that got ruined with the usage of AI, or terrible mixing, like “SKY CITY,” this album was extremely long, and just really unpleasant to listen to. Kanye’s verses are barely finished, and just overall incredibly lazy, and even some solid features just can’t save this thing. Score: 1/10

  4. Y2K! - Ice Spice: I’ve never really understood the appeal of Ice Spice, her vocal delivery is incredible boring and monotone, her beat selection isn’t great, and she relies heavily on features to carry this album. Her music has no substance and doesn’t wow you at all. Her flows are practically identical on every track of this album. The only reason I didn’t give this record a lower score, was because I liked Travis Scott’s contribution on one of the tracks. Score: 2/10

  5. C, XOXO - Camila Cabello: When I reviewed this album back in like July, I said that it was an incredibly derivative and soulless record. There’s no identity, it just feels like Camila is just blatantly hopping on trends and trying to sound like better artists such as Charli xcx, and completely lacking in originality or fresh ideas in the process. “Iluvit,” has one of the most annoying choruses I’ve heard all year, I have no idea how most of these tracks made it past the studio. Score: 3/10
